Moving to Peru

According to the Viena Convention and Montreal Protocol, regarding substances that can damage the Ozone layer, the Peruvian Government has assumed the commitment to control the production, consumption and commercialisation of equipments which use any of these substances.

FROM NOW ON YOU MUST CONSIDER: when you ship equipments like refrigerators, air conditioners, freezers or any other equipment that contains gas that harms the Ozone layer in the upper Atmosphere, that you must send the following documents in order to proceed with customs clearance:

ORIGINAL DECLARATION from the manufacturer indicating the type of gas for each equipment.

Catalogue or Technical Brochure with all the specifications.

If you do not send these documents, those equipments will NOT be able to clear customs and will be retained by customs authorities.

Before you ship these equipments you must send the above mentioned documents to the shippers to proceed to obtain the certificate from the Ozone Technical Office in Peru. The cost of this certificate is US$ 65 per article.

HOUSEHOLD GOODS
DIPLOMATS

Total franchise for all Diplomats and Embassy Officers, Members of Foreign Armed Forces working on Official mission and to foreign representatives of International Organization.

FOREIGNERS and RETURNING PERUVIANS

All shipments will be subject to customs inspections at Port or Airport of entry.

A fixed 20% duties and taxes will be assessed to their Household Goods (CIF value).  The amount to be paid is applied by the Customs Officer, after the physical inspection takes place.

For returning Peruvians HHGDS previously exported from Peru with supporting documents stamped by Peruvian Customs will be duty free.

REQUIRED DOCUMENTATION

– Original Passport.

– Legalized Copy of work contract or non-immigrant residence visa stamped on passport.  Peruvians must proof a 9-month minimum stay in the foreign country.

– FREE ENTRANCE PERMIT is required for Diplomats.

– 02 Original Bill of Lading or 01 Airway Bill consigned to clients’ name as it appears in their passport (no nicknames) c/o (the moving agents name).

– The B/L must show the total weight of the shipment, excluding the CTR’s tare weight. The Peruvian Customs will reweigh the shipment and if the difference in the weight shown in the B/L or AWB and the actual weight is more or less than 5%, the Peruvian Customs will apply a fee. In such case, this fee will be charged to the origin Agent.

– Packing List (not necessary to be stamped by Peruvian Consulate) in Spanish if possible.

CARS

–          Foreign Diplomats may import a car Duty Free.

–  Peruvians Diplomats and Peruvians on Official mission may import a car Duty Free up to a maximum of 2000 c.c., considering that vehicles must be at least one year old.

– Foreigners and returning Peruvians may import new or used cars (not more than 5 years old) paying the following duties: New Cars: 45.38% / Used Cars: 71.81% based on the CIF value.

– Ocean Bill of Lading.

–  Detailed Commercial Invoice (original).

–  Vehicle Title.

– It’s imperative for Foreigners and returning Peruvians to obtain a Certificate of Inspection at Origin issued by any International surveillance company (SGS, Bureau Veritas or SSI).

  3. Make sure that you are performing an equal comparison between the quotes of the various companies.
