Household Goods and Personal Effects

Documents Required

  • Original Passport
  • Original Packing list
  • Original Bill of Lading (OBL) / Air Waybill (AWB)
  • Original Work Permit (IMTA)
  • Original Residence Permit (KITAS)
  • Letter of Employment (SURAT KUASA)
  • Assignment / Reassignment Letter (Indonesian Diplomats)
  • Original PP-8 (Diplomats) / PP-19 (Semi-Diplomats)

 

Specific Information

  • The Packing list must be stamped by the Indonesian Embassy at the origin country of residence for returning nationals.
  • The Letter of Employment must state that shipper lived abroad for a minimum of 1 year for returning nationals.
  • For foreign citizens, documents must be valid a minimum of 1 year before arrival of shipment. Goods must arrive within 3 months prior to or upon entry of shipper.
  • Household goods and personal effects can be imported duty free for returning Indonesian citizens who worked or studied abroad for at least 1 year. For air and sea shipments, the air shipment must arrive first; only one importation of each type is permitted.
  • Shipments under a wife’s name are subject to duties and taxes (returning citizens).
  • All shipments should be sent to POE Jakarta to avoid complications, intensive examinations, and delays with Customs.
  • Sea shipments take approximately 10-12 business days if a full container load (FCL) or 12-15 business days if a less than container load (LCL) after port arrival for delivery to Jakarta.  Air shipments take approximately 2-3 business days for delivery after receipt of the necessary documents from the client.
  • Incomplete documentation resulting in delays may result in extra charges to include demurrage, port storage, and Customs penalties.
  • All shipments are physically inspected by Customs, excluding diplomatic shipments

Motor Vehicles

Documents Required

  • Copy of Passport
  • Original Bill of Lading (OBL) / Air Waybill (AWB)
  • Original Packing list, stamped by the Indonesian Embassy in the origin country (Diplomats)
  • Original PP-8 (must be approved by Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs)
  • Original Title and Registration

 

Specific Information

  • Only Diplomats may import motor vehicles.
  • An application to the Embassy / NGO in Jakarta is required; a copy of the Packing list and a copy of Bill of Lading are necessary to apply for the PP-8 / PP-19.

Pets

Documents Required

  • Import Permit (issued by the Directorate General of Livestock Service)
  • Veterinary Health Certificate
  • Vaccination Record

 

Specific Information

  • The Veterinary Health Certificate and the Vaccination Record must be issued by an authorized veterinarian in the origin country.
  • Vaccinations must be given at least 30 days prior to import but not more than 1 year.
  • Pets cannot be imported to Bali.
  • Pets must be at least 90 days old for import.
  • Pets should not be pregnant, nursing, or require food from another animal.
  • Pets are subject to 14 days quarantine.
  • The Directorate General of Livestock Service must be notified of the arrival of pets 2 days prior to import.

Restricted/Dutiable Items

  • Cultural objects (authorization from the Cultural Authorities may be required)
  • The following items may qualify for free import within the limits indicated:
    • Cigarettes (200), cigars (25), tobacco (100 g)
    • Alcohol (1 L)
    • Perfume (a reasonable quantity)
    • Personal goods up to a value of USD 250 per passenger or USD 1,000 per family

Prohibited Items

  • Protected species under the Washing Convention (CITES)
  • Firearms and ammunitions, explosives, gas and gasoline
  • Vehicle spare parts
  • Alcoholic beverages

Consignment Instructions

Recommended: Contact the destination agent to ensure all requirements have been met prior to import, especially for differences regarding air / sea shipments.
